What are you trying to understand?

You may have a specific question, a programme taking shape, or an idea you want to examine more carefully. Here are some places we can begin.

  • How do different views of consciousness relate to our work?

Compare philosophical perspectives and explore what their differences mean for your approach.

  • How can we use contemplative ideas thoughtfully?

Clarify concepts from yoga and contemplative traditions, their context, and their relevance to your work.

  • How should we understand mystical and extraordinary experiences?

Examine different interpretations and distinguish what an experience suggests from what it establishes.

  • Are we explaining these ideas accurately?

Review the concepts and claims in your teaching, writing, or public-facing materials.

  • Do our practices fit the aims of our programme?

Investigate the relationship between your intentions, philosophical framework, and the experiences you seek to support.

  • What can research help us understand?

Explore relevant findings, competing explanations, and the questions that remain open.

These are starting points. You are welcome to bring a question that does not fit neatly into a category.

Work with Aidan Lyon, PhD

Philosophical depth. Scientific inquiry. Contemplative understanding.

I work at the intersection of philosophy, psychology, consciousness research, and contemplative practice. My consulting brings these perspectives together to help you think carefully about the ideas informing your work.

Explore the research

Start with a focused consultation.

Bring a question, a decision, or a piece of work you would like to examine. We agree on the focus beforehand, then use the session to investigate it together.

  1. Before we meet

Send a short description of your question and any relevant context. If material needs reviewing, we agree on the scope in advance.

  2. During the consultation

We clarify the problem, explore relevant ideas and evidence, and consider their implications for your work.

  3. What you take away

A clearer understanding of the question, distinctions you can use, and recommendations or directions for further inquiry.

Online consultations. Fees and any preparation or written follow-up are agreed before booking.

When the question needs more room.

Some questions benefit from a longer conversation or closer engagement with your materials. We can agree on a defined piece of work.

  • Programme and content review

Examine the philosophical foundations, explanations, and substantive claims in a course, retreat programme, publication, or service.

  • Team workshops

Explore a relevant topic together, develop a shared understanding, and investigate questions arising in your work.

  • Ongoing advice

Return to important questions as your project develops, with an agreed focus and scope.

A few practical questions.

Who is consulting for?

Practitioners, therapists, facilitators, educators, researchers, and organisations seeking specialist input on psychedelics, consciousness, or contemplative ideas. You do not need to work in the psychedelic field if your question is relevant.

How is this different from coaching?

Consulting centres on a question, project, or professional decision for which you want my expertise. Coaching centres on your own experience, development, and change. If you are unsure which fits, describe what brings you here.

Can you review materials before we meet?

Yes, where relevant. We agree on the amount of material, preparation, and fee beforehand. Work requiring substantial research or extensive review is scoped separately.

What is the scope of the advice?

My contribution is philosophical, conceptual, research-informed, and educational. Clinical, legal, and operational decisions may require additional specialist input.

What would you like to think through?

Tell me what you are working on, the question you have, and where you would value my input. A short description is enough.

What are you trying to understand or decide? If there is a deadline, please mention it.

We’ll discuss whether the question fits and agree on the scope and fee before booking.
