Questions about psychedelic coaching
What the coaching is, what you can bring to it, what it costs, and where its limits are.
About the coaching
What is psychedelic coaching?
Coaching for people exploring transformations of consciousness, whether through psychedelics, meditation, yoga, or something that simply happened to them. We help you understand what happened, where you are now, and where it could lead.
At CPS, “psychedelic” means mind-revealing. The work is less about substances than about learning to see your own mind more clearly, using a map of these states that our research is developing and testing.
Do I need to have taken psychedelics?
No. You don’t need to have had a psychedelic experience, or to be planning one. You can come with a question from meditation or yoga, an experience you can’t place, or simply a wish to explore consciousness, reality, selfhood and meaning more seriously.
Do you work with meditation, yoga or kundalini experiences?
Yes. Meditative, yogic, mystical and kundalini experiences belong to the same territory we map, and our research compares contemplative and psychedelic states. We treat traditional maps such as the chakras as models to investigate, not doctrines you have to believe.
Who will I work with?
Aidan Lyon, PhD, who founded CPS. He works across philosophy, psychology, consciousness research and contemplative practice: he is the author of Psychedelic Experience: Revealing the Mind (Oxford University Press, 2023) and Principal Investigator of the Mystical Entropy research programme, and has practised Zen for twenty years and yoga intensively for several. What you can bring
Can you help me integrate a psychedelic experience?
Yes. Integration here means more than talking an experience through: we reconstruct what happened, separate what it revealed from the interpretations that grew around it, and work out what, if anything, should change in your relationships, work, practice and daily life.
What if my experience was difficult or frightening?
You can bring it as it is; you don’t have to simplify it first. We take it seriously without deciding too quickly what it means: neither dismissing it because it happened in an altered state, nor treating everything it seemed to show as true.
If you are in crisis or at risk of harm, coaching is not the right support. Please contact your local emergency services.
Can you help me prepare for a psychedelic experience or retreat?
Yes. Preparation means clarifying what you’re looking for, whether this is the right step for you, and what conditions will help you approach it with care, including whether something gentler might serve the same aim. It happens in conversation: we don’t provide substances or guide sessions.
Practicalities
How much does psychedelic coaching cost?
The first conversation is free and lasts 20 minutes. After that:
- Individual Psychedelic Coaching
- €150 · 60 minutes
- Psychedelic Navigation
- €420 · 3 × 60 minutes
- Deeper Work
- €1,200 · 10 × 60 minutes
What each involves is set out on the coaching page.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you bring. A single session suits a focused question; three or ten give time to experiment between sessions, observe what changes and adjust the direction of the work. We can work out what fits in the free conversation. The aim throughout is that you navigate more and more on your own.
Is coaching online? Where are you based?
Sessions are online, in English. CPS is based in Amsterdam, and sessions there may also be possible by arrangement.
What happens in the free introductory call?
A 20-minute conversation with no commitment. You tell us what brings you here; we talk about how we might approach it and whether CPS is a useful place to continue. To arrange one, write to us.
Safety and scope
Is psychedelic coaching the same as therapy?
No. CPS provides coaching and education, not psychotherapy or medical treatment. Where a person’s needs fall outside the appropriate scope of coaching, we may recommend seeking support from a suitably qualified professional.
Do you provide psychedelics or guide trips?
No. We do not provide psychedelic substances or psychedelic-assisted therapy, and we don’t sit with people during psychedelic sessions. Coaching is conversation: before an experience, after one, or without one at all.
What if I’m in crisis?
CPS offers coaching and education, not therapy or crisis support. If you are in crisis or at risk of harm, please contact your local emergency services.
